Caen Château is one of the largest walled fortifications in Europe. William the Conqueror’s palace was a royal fortress then infantry barracks. Every century of his history left its mark on the castle: restored ramparts, dungeon, Exchequer Hall and the Governors’ residence. Step through the doors and their impressive draining channels into the museums, exhibition areas, shows, experiences and enjoyment. Puzzle books for children available all year round (see page 24). Learn the history of the castle (scale model, 3D reconstruction, entertainment and multimedia activities), a souvenir shop and museum ticket office at Saint-Georges Church. 2017 exhibition, June to October: "The castle during the Hundred Years' War", Echiquier des ducs de Normandie, admission free.
