Abbaye aux Dames

Consecrated on 18 June 1066, the splendid La Trinité abbey church, a masterpiece of Norman Romanesque art, still houses the tomb of its founder - Mathilda, Queen of England, Duchess of Normandy and wife of William the Conqueror. The magnificently restored Abbaye aux Dames complex now contains the offices of the newly-formed Normandy region. There is also the 11th century crypt, the 18th century convent and the French-style garden - so why not come and learn about the 950-year history of this Norman abbey and the famous ladies associated with it?
